Full Description
Moderate quantity (c20 coarse ware sherds & 1 glzd sherd) medieval pottery of C12th-C14/15th date collected casually by owner in addition to a large group of Pmed pottery sherds, CBM fragments, CU alloy and Fe objects (buttons, harness fittings, few C18th+ Cu alloy coins, nails, staples, brackets etc during renovation on the farm house, barn (now Triton House) and conversion of two adjacent fields back to pasture. Only one med Cu alloy find - crude 'angel' mount recorded under the Portable Antiquities Scheme, no med coins found. Finds recovered by eye and by owner using a detector. See map for general area of scatter with an old route way, 'The Earl's Way' going through the site from north to south west. Possible earthwork in field to NE of farm (see map) with slight island in centre and hints of broad (c3-4m) wide ditches (infilled) on N, E and S edges - see OS map of 1880's. Tithe map not checked. Possibly moat.
