Full Description

2002: Monitoring and augering revealed the probable castle ditch. The deep build-up of deposits encountered by the auger are consistent with a large feature, very likely to be the castle bailey ditch. The auger holes suggest a feature of over 2.7m deep and the clay encountered might be the remains of a clay lining for the original ditch (S1).
