Full Description
A layer of building material is visible in the river bank on the south side, consisting of large flints and Roman brick and tile, including tegulae in a silty clay, about half a metre below surface with a thick silty clay layer with no inclusions (water deposited?) above. First identified and photographed after bank erosion in winter 2003. (S1) and visited in 2005. Function unclear, perhaps building material re-used for consolidation?
Another similar layer seen further north (CHD 066).
Photos (2003) in parish file.
