Full Description

Series of 3 linear/right-angled ponds, possibly remnant of former moat and outworks. Shown on modern and earlier OS maps (S1).
Easternmost of the ponds is the larger and looks linkely to be the remnant of a moat extending further east, with the smaller ponds to the west possibly representing former fishponds, a garden area or an orchard (shown as tree covered on 1880s OS map). Alternatively may have been semi-industrial, for example brick pits.
Tithe map and Copinger's History of Buxhall need checking.
Formerly recorded (circa 1996) in HER but computerised entry no longer present by July 2006 (accidently deleted?). Re-HER'd July 2006.
Also Roman coin - see Rom.
