Full Description

Anti-glider ditches to the west and south of decoy airfield SUT 213, south of Woodbridge airfield SUT 197.

September 2015. Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty National Mapping Programme.
The anti-glider ditches described above were visible as earthworks and cropmarks on aerial photographs (S1)-(S10) over a much greater area than previously recorded. Some of these features are still visible as earthworks as recently as 2011 on Lidar imagery (S9).They are part of the same network of trenches as those recorded to the north and west (SHER SUT 105). A sewage works and compound, which may have been a possible World War Two strongpoint is visible in the centre of the area at TM 3161 4717 (S11). The entire area of Sutton Common was requisitioned as part of the ‘Woodbridge Training Area’ (SHER SUT 250), and was used for Tank training and live artillery fire as well as infantry training.
E. Ford (Norfolk Historic Environment Service), 16th September 2015.
