Medieval town of Botisdale, defined from historic maps and locations of listed buildings.
Market probably in operation before 1227 when Henry III granted a charter to "the abbot and monks of St. Edmunds at Bury" for a weekly Thursday market at Botesdale and a yearly fair, held at their manor at Redgrave. For further details see (S1).
