Full Description

1866 - 'The Warren Lodge', one of three Warren houses at Wangford. Part of a range of brick, flint and tile buildings, containing bed chamber, rabbite house, trap house and skin chamber (S1). The 1866 Sales Particulars for the Wangford Hall Estate included a detailed description of the warren lodge "containing Bed Chamber, Rabbit House, Trap House and Skin Chamber; Coah house with Granary over, Nag Stable for 3 Horses, Cart Horse Stabling for 12 horses, 2 Bay Barn, Hay House, lean-to; also capital open Implement Shed lean-to, open shed and several good enclosed Farm Yards". There is also "near to the preceding a warrener's house", which had " 6 rooms and Turf Lodge, with Garden" (S3)(S4).
A second 'recently erected warren lodge' was at circa TL755832, and a third at Shakers Lodge (WNG 028) 'used by warreners in the trapping season'. Notes and plan in parish file (S1).
Complex likely to be site of Domesday manor of 2 carcates 'held by one Ulwart from the Abbot, plus 7 acres of meadow, a church [WNG 015] and 15 acres'. This manor descended to Thos de Ickeworth who obtained grant of Free Warren (see WNG 025 for warren banks) in 1253 (S2).
Wangford comprised part of an outlier of Great Livermere parish, which straddled the Brandon boundary at TL782833 (see WNG 023).
