Trenched evaluation in advance of residential development revealed a series of features comprising linear trenches and services, associated with the nearby naval training establishment. Running along the top of the slope an earthwork bank was recorded, within which were a series of WWII air raid shelters. Investigation of the slope suggested it had been landscaped to create a glacis in front of the battery (S1).
