Summary

Ancient woodland named Sudbourne Great Wood. Previously known as 'Seudgrove Wood' (Hodskinson 1783). Various earthworks of uncertain date and significance are visible within it on aerial photographs and lidar.

Full Description

Sudbourne Great Wood, was known as 'Seudgrove Wood' in 1783 (S1). The wood is an irregular shape and is to the east of Captain Wood (previously know as 'Catmore Wood')(see SUE 029). Mapped in HBSMR after 1880s OS mapping.
Date is unknown, could be at least medieval. Only the south side of the Wood survives intact, much of the northern part has been lost.

December 2015. Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty National Mapping Programme.
Earthworks are visible on aerial photographs and lidar (S2)-(S6), within the area of ancient woodland described above. Their date and significance is unknown; they have not been mapped.
