Full Description

Glebe Farm is a farmstead visible on the 1st Ed Os map. The farmstead is laid out in a dispersed plan. The farmstead sits alongside a public road in an isolated location. This farmstead survives intact with modern sheds on the side (S1, S2, S3).

Brick and pantiled barn c. 1830, possibly contemporary with adjacent rectory (listed grade II) to which it originally belonged. The structure contained a three bay barn to the N and shed and loft to the south. The shed is too narrow to have acted as a stable and was probably a vehicle shed. The barn has a central porch to the west and a wide, low door to the east. Evident parts of brickwork belong to an earlier structure, perhaps dating to the 17th C. later extensions are all visible on the Tithe map of 1845. other than these, the structure remains largely unaltered (S4).

Recorded as part of the Farmsteads in the Suffolk Countryside Project. This is a purely desk-based study and no site visits were undertaken. These records are not intended to be a definitive assessment of these buildings. Dating reflects their presence at a point in time on historic maps and there is potential for earlier origins to buildings and farmsteads. This project highlights a potential need for a more in depth field study of farmstead to gather more specific age data (S5).
