Full Description

Redundant brick shed built c. 1900. the substantial remains lie just 10m to the n and the eponymous brick kiln cottage approximately 35m in the same direction. The structure is 4.25m wide x 10.5m in length. It is divided into 2 unequal compartments by an original brick partition. The larger compartment to the N is entered by a half hung stable like door in the centre of the west wall. The smaller compartment to the south is entered via wide double doors in the timber-framed gable (which have been renewed but maintain the same arrangement). The building probably formed a stable and cart shed. The two spaces have always been linked internally, though the doorway in the central partition has been slightly enlarged. The cart shed has now been floored over, likely a later insertion. The stable is ventilated by a brick grill in the N gable and by 3 laterally set ridge tiles on the treble-tiled roof.
The structure may have housed transport belonging to the brick yard. If so, the building is of historic interest through its link with the industry, for which very little evidence now remains.
