Full Description

The building consists of 3 main phases, all timber framed. The front range, facing north onto the street, is a lobby house built in the first half to middle of the 17th C. behind this is a 15th C building running N - S. This was originally jettied along the E side onto the garden, but has since been underbuilt. To the rear of this is a slightly larger late 15th/ early 16th C 2 bay building running W to E. The east bay has a heavily smoke blackened roof, indicating that it was originally an open hall, open to the roof and heated by a hearth on the ground. The eastern truss indicates this hall continued for at least another bay (possibly a Med kitchen). It has a crownpost roof with high spandrel braces. There was a similar roof over the middle of the jettied range, but this has been replaced.
