Full Description

2009: A single trench evaluation was carried out prior to a planning application for the erection of two new extensions to the school building, a bus turning area and a new hard sports pitch within the school grounds. Finds and features of Iron Age date were located within the trench, as well as a post-medieval/modern ditch (S1).

2010: A small-scale excavation prior to the construction of a new hard play area at Clare Primary School encountered features of Late Bronze Age/Middle Iron Age date. A small curvilinear (semicircular) segmented gully (of Middle Iron Age date) and a 4 post structure (of late Bronze Age/Early Iron Age date), with associated features including two hearth debris pits, were recorded. A large ditch encountered during the evaluation and believed to be of post-medieval/modern date was confirmed as such (S2).
