Farmstead record WBY 021 - Fasrmstead: Prospect House Farm

A historic building record was made of farm buildings at Prospect House, Wilby in advance of conversion. The group includes a much-altered 16th and early 17th century timber framed barn and stable, with evidence of a East Anglian queen-post roof and intact diamond mullion window in the former hay loft. The cattle yards and shelter sheds adjoining the barn were added in the mid 19th century, although largely rebuilt in the 20th century. Despite the historic interest of the surviving features, the extent of alterations mean the building is unlikely to meet the criteria for listing (S1).

Recorded as part of the Farmsteads in the Suffolk Countryside Project. This is a purely desk-based study and no site visits were undertaken. These records are not intended to be a definitive assessment of these buildings. Dating reflects their presence at a point in time on historic maps and there is potential for earlier origins to buildings and farmsteads. This project highlights a potential need for a more in depth field study of farmstead to gather more specific age data.
