Full Description

An archaeological monitoring carried out on land at Barton House, Great Barton, identified further evidence, consisting of sherds of unstratified pottery, of a phase of Late Iron Age/Early Roman activity to add to that seen at BRG 015 to the north. Monitored groundworks also exposed foundations and a probable cellar relating to the post-medieval Barton Hall, parts of which still survive above ground. This clearly shows that foundations for lost parts of the structure are substantial and probably survive intact below the current landscaped gardens (S1).
