Full Description

Amor Hall Farm is a farmstead visible on the 1st Ed Os map. The farmstaed is laid out in a model farm plan with E-plan elements. The farmhouse is detached and set away from the yard. 19th C barn which forms part of a model farm complex constructed in the mid 19th C and also incuding stabling, a cattle shed and a cartlodge. This model farm is located in the grounds of Amor Hall, which a 16th C Grade 2 listed building. The timber framed barn which sits on a brick plinth was constructed in two parts, with a granary and grinding room at one end. Some of the machinery used for processing corn still remains. The barn itself appears to have been constructed out of materials from an earlier 18th C barn which once stood at this site. (S1)

Recorded as part of the Farmsteads in the Suffolk Countryside Project. This is a purely desk-based study and no site visits were undertaken. These records are not intended to be a definitive assessment of these buildings. Dating reflects their presence at a point in time on historic maps and there is potential for earlier origins to buildings and farmsteads. This project highlights a potential need for a more in depth field study of farmstead to gather more specific age data.
