Full Description

1996: A structural survey was carried out at The Old Workhouse, College Road, Bury St Edmunds, prior to its conversion. This is a 19th C former workhouse, which was originally used as a dairy. The walls are constructed of flint and brick, however the survey showed that a large part of the west wall had been rebuilt in the 20th C to a poor standard. Many of the original roof timber had survived, however the roof tiles were incomplete. Much of the first floor was missing and the walls were significantly damaged and distorted. Overall this redundant building was shown to be in a state of significant disrepair (S1).
