Summary

Large square pillbox. Small embrasures in sides, now blocked with red bricks. On S side there was a large embrasure possibly for a 6pdr gun. This was blocked with concrete but two smaller embrasures were created, later to be also blocked with red bricks. Summary from record LVM: Type 28A pillbox, with covered entrance. All embrasures and entrance have been bricked up. There are rifle embrasures set in the blocked 6pdr. embrasure. Entrance faces N. Spigot mortar mount [UORN 6194] by SW corner of pillbox. Pillbox sited above former railway line.

Full Description

At side of road to Cockfield, N of Lavenham. Large square pillbox. Small embrasures in sides, now blocked with red bricks. On S side there was a large embrasure possibly for a 6pdr gun. This was blocked with concrete but two smaller embrasures were created, later to be also blocked with red bricks (S1).

On a bank on the W side of the A1141 road, 50m N of the old railway bridge, Lavenham, S of old windmill remains. Type 28A pillbox, with covered entrance. All embrasures and entrance have been bricked up. There are rifle embrasures set in the blocked 6pdr. embrasure. Entrance faces N. Spigot mortar mount [UORN 6194] by SW corner of pillbox. Pillbox sited above former railway line (S2).
