Full Description

16th C timber-framed lobby entrance house, which would have originally had a smoke bay. In the late 16th C a first floor was added and further alterations were carried out during the 17th and 18th C including the construction of a new roof. Further alterations in the 20th C and the house having been left derelict for a period of time have resulted in some loss of the historic character of this structure (S1).

Recorded as part of the Farmsteads in the Suffolk Countryside Project. This is a purely desk-based study and no site visits were undertaken. These records are not intended to be a definitive assessment of these buildings. Dating reflects their presence at a point in time on historic maps and there is potential for earlier origins to buildings and farmsteads. This project highlights a potential need for a more in depth field study of farmstead to gather more specific age data.
