Full Description

High Ash Farm is a famrstead visible on the 1st Ed OS map and Badingham Tithe map. A heritage asset assessment dates the farmhouse to the 17th century. The farmhouse is set away from the yard. The working buildings are arranged in a regular L plan layout. The historic buildings remain intact with an additional modern barn nearby. The farmstead is set alongside a public road.

L-shaped outbuilding range adjacent to a 17th C farmhouse. The original timber-framed range was constructed in the 17th C. Some of the original wattle and daub infill survives, although one elevation was rebuilt in brick during the 18th C. Two further ranges were constructed in the 19th C. It is not clear what the historic use of this structure was, although more recently it has been used to house livestock (S1).

Recorded as part of the Farmsteads in the Suffolk Countryside Project. This is a purely desk-based study and no site visits were undertaken. These records are not intended to be a definitive assessment of these buildings. Dating reflects their presence at a point in time on historic maps and there is potential for earlier origins to buildings and farmsteads. This project highlights a potential need for a more in depth field study of farmstead to gather more specific age data.
