Full Description
Subsidence of a few inches down and sideways of Girl Guides' Hut on Chalk Road in early 1960s - possibly related to known mine shafts.
Girl Guides' Hut, a building constructed of mostly concrete, suffered subsidence of a few inchies in 1960/61 resulting in its demolition. The site was halfway down Chalk Road on the right-hand side. After demolition, the depression was filled and levelled. This subsidence was possibly due to tunnels relating to chalk mines of an unknown date in the local area.
