Monument record WGN 007 - Church of All Saints

All Saints is within diocese of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich, archdeaconry of Sudbury and deanery of Mildenhall. Status : rectory (S1).
The structure is : chancel, nave, S aisle, modern S porch, W tower. Most of the work is C14. The chancel is Early English with Early English lancets on the N side and Decorated lancets on the S. The E window is Decorated and has 3 stepped lancet lights under one arch. The Decorated W tower is of flints, square, embattled, with buttresses, the upper stages of the tower are C14. The W doorway is finely moulded. A C13 coffin slab with raised and floriated cross makes up the lintel of the small window on the ringing floor. One of the earliest bells in Suffolk hangs in this tower; it dates from the early years of C14. 24 carved oak seats of C12 remain in the church. Traces of wall paintings have been discovered in a splay of a N aisle window to N side of the chancel arch. Another canopied figure has been revealed on the E wall of the S aisle. Extraordinary Med graffiti has been discovered in the church: on the jamb of a priest's door is the signature of Bagot the priest in 1447. In the churchyard is the typically shaped base of a churchyard cross, it is SE of the chancel (S2).

1995: A few years ago skeletons were discovered by Eastern Electricity when putting in new line (or new pole?) on W side of road outside church (i.e. outside churchyard) at circa TL 6909 7387, possibly part of former graveyard? (S3).
