Full Description
This church is in the diocese of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich, the archdeaconry of Sudbury and the deanery of Mildenhall (S1).
The structure is: nave, N aisle, S aisle, chancel, organ chamber (enlarged in 1888), N porch, (main entrance at the base of the tower) (S2). This church was built in 1875 to replace an earlier one which had stood on this site. The only part of the old church retained was portion of the old tower and this was raised higher. The building material for the new church was flint with Bath stone dressings. The resultant church is a poor example of a "Gothic revival town church". In 1887 the chancel was enlarged (S2). The pulpit is handsome; it is of Caen stone and is supported upon eight columns. The nave roof is a simple scissor-braced type. The arcades are of five bays: the capitals of the piers are poor copies of Norman models. The tower stands at the SW corner of the church: it has two stages but barely rises above the roof ridge. It is embattled and has pinnacles (S2).
