Full Description

Dunstall Green Farm is a farmstead visible on the 1st Ed Os map. The farmstead is laid out in a dispersed plan and sits alongside a public road in a hamlet location. The farmhouse has been lost with a modern farmhouse on site. All working buildings remain. (S2-5)

Timber-framed barn constructed during the 16th/17th C, using a number of re-used timbers. The barn orignally consisted of four bays, but a fifth aisled bay was constructed during the 18th/19th C. A number of carpenters marks are visible on the timbers. A flint barn constructed druing the 18th/19th C is also present at the site. Both buildings have been heavily altered and midified over time. A timber-framed and weatherboarded cartlodge constructed during the 19th C is also present at the site (S1).

Recorded as part of the Farmsteads in the Suffolk Countryside Project. This is a purely desk-based study and no site visits were undertaken. These records are not intended to be a definitive assessment of these buildings. Dating reflects their presence at a point in time on historic maps and there is potential for earlier origins to buildings and farmsteads. This project highlights a potential need for a more in depth field study of farmstead to gather more specific age data.
