Full Description

Pumping station built 1844 to help stop the fenland flooding. This brick building was constructed on closely spaced timber piles in order to to overcome the unstable ground conditions and originally housed a steam engine and waterwheel. During 1944 the pumping station was remodelled and the waterwheel was replaced by a structure to house a new diesel pump (S1).
