Full Description

"Site of early C19 Martello Tower (V) built on the E bank of the River Deben facing tower U (Felixstowe 061). It was part of a three- tower formation and supported a battery S of the tower (S2). Demolished in 1819 (?1919) its circular site can still be seen in the grounds of Bawdsey Manor" (S1)(R1).
The site is now marked by a 19th century circular sunken garden, in which pieces of the demolished tower can be seen incorporated into the gardens (S3).
Also note use of Pulhamite in artificial rock garden. Bawdsey Manor house built in 1888 (S3).
