Full Description

2013-2014: The excavation revealed a tree throw containing early Neolithic pottery and a pit containing parts of an early bronze age food vessel were present in the northern part of the site. The most significant activity found was part of an Anglo-Saxon inhumation cemetery in the southern part of the site. It comprised 8 individuals split into two burial groups, 5 of which were buried at the south on E-W allignment and then 3 at the north on N-S alligment. Radiocarbon datin established that the cemetery was in use between the late 7th and early 8th centuries. Bone preservation and skeleton completeness was variable, and the demographic inlcuded adults and subadults and both male and female individuals were present. Some inhumations were found with objects inlcuding iron knife blades and a copper alloy brooch. A field system of medieval or post medieval date was identified and a quarry site of similar date comprising several pits. (S1)
