Full Description

Distinctive rectangular enclosure east of Brandon by the south side if River Little Ouse, formerd by 4 large projecting drains coming off from the River. The 1807 enclosure map shows this as a distinct feature, with a samll building located on the exterior of th sourther tip (S1). In contrast the 1840 tithe map shows this to be a less defined feature, with only one large 'arm' on the eastern side (although the earlier map does not show this as one solid area of water). The south and west 'arms' are not shown as on the 1807 map, with the sourthern arm now shown as a wiggly drain not really connected to the other drains. Apportionment lists this as pasture called "Cheque Mead" (RZ). The feature is of unknown funtion - it is unlikely to be a moated site as the area is very low-lying and periodically flooded (S1).
