Full Description

Jan-April 2007: Post Medieval pottery and ceramic building material identified on the south side of the site during fieldwalking survey (S1)

June 2007: An archaeological trial trench evaluation revealed four roughly east to west aligned ditches. Four of the ditches are undated, although it is likely that they are a continuity of Iron Age and Roman site situated to the east. A fourth ditch contained a sectional field drain in its base and was likely of 19th century date. The subsequent strip and record excavation was undertaken on a 150m stretch around where the ditches had been revealed. Further Romano-British ditches and pits were exposed along with a further later ditch containing a field drain. It was interpreted that there were two phases of late Iron Age and Roman field boundaries (S2).
