Full Description
2013: An archaeological community event excavating 29 test pits by local residents and other volunteers. The event was organised by the Hoxne Heritage Group, as part of their HLF funded project 'The Story of Hoxne'. The test pits frequently demonstrated that preserved archaeological layers are present - see HXN 062, 063-072 and DEN 012.
A large quantity of medieval pottery was seen in Test Pit 3, including seven sherds of hand-made Early medieval ware dating to the 11th-12th centuries as well as 34 sherds of medieval coursewares dating to the late 12th-14th centuries. Some 15th-16th century and post-medieval pottery was seen with CBM and fired clay (S1).
