Full Description
2013: An archaeological community event excavating 29 test pits by local residents and other volunteers. The event was organised by the Hoxne Heritage Group, as part of their HLF funded project 'The Story of Hoxne'. The test pits frequently demonstrated that preserved archaeological layers are present - see HXN 062, 063-072 and DEN 012.
Two sherds of medieval pottery were recovered from Test Pit 32 along with fragments of post-medieval pottery, CBM, glass and iron nails. Fragments of a Martincamp flask was seend, this vessel which was made in Northern France dates to the 17th century. Very small quantities of clay tobacco pipe were also present (S1).
