Full Description

Basil Brown was advised of find of Roman sherds in Foxgrove Gardens in 1951. Informant in 1951 was R Meehan, Surveyor in Charge, Cliff Road estate development (S1).
Finds pot etc. from Foxgrove Gardens (construction) in circa 1925, presented IPSMG 1933 and 1947 (R3). Finds from `Hill Tops' 1933, presented by H M Garner (S3).
1958: Antoninianus of Carausius (M & S 822, IA) from TM 3117 3506 (S4).
1961: Scatter of pottery, including small amount Belgic, Samian, mortaria, colour coat, grey ware, crag & shell tempered coarse wares; also few tesserae, box tiles and large amount of roof tiles (suggesting high status building, possibly villa). Brooch - late C1. ? Walls, rubbish pits, tiles (tegulae), plaster and window glass, Samian, found at 9 & 11 Foxgrove Gardens in 1961 - see (S2). Also brooch - see (S5).
