Full Description
Finds from a watching brief at 19 Southgate Street. No other details of the work exist. The finds consisted of five sherds of pottery, seven post-medieval peg tile fragments, a fragment of fired clay, a fragment of cattle skull and two oyster shells. The pottery includes one Roman greyware (GX) jar rim which is not closely datable and the rest of the sherds are late or post medieval. Included are a sherd of Essex-type late medieval and transitional ware (LMTE) with spots of clear glaze which is 15-16th century and two sherds of Iron-glazed blackware which are 16-18th century (S1).
