Full Description

2003-2004: Archaeological monitoring of groundworks associated with a development of 7 house was undertaken. At the north road-fronting side of the site, brick foundations of a possibly 19th century building were identified which may have been part of a forge thought to have been in this area. There is no building in this location on the 1st edition OS map (1880s) and so the building must have been demolished prior to this. A small medieval pit and an undated post hole were identified in the northeast area of the site. A small number of residually derived fragments of worked flint hint at the possibility of prehistoric occupation in the vicinity of the site. (S1)
