Full Description

2013-2014: Excavation revealed evidence of a concentration of Bronze Age activity in the northern part of the central section of the site. This included a number of ditches, some of which appeared to respect one of the nearby Eastow Hill Roman barrows. Pits and post hole from this period were also present, and a series of post holes forming an arc likely represented part of a circular structure, a further post-built structure was also identified. Iron Age activity was represented by a series of inter-cutting pits which contained fired clay possibly from the remains of an oven. Some features of Roman date were identified and seemed to be related to the nearby Eastlow Hill Roman barrows. There were a large number of medieval period features which included field boundaries, pits as well as beam slot and post-built structures. (S1)
