Full Description
"Roman silver coins & other silver objects found at Wingfield about 1836" (S1)(S2).
AS Robertson, 2000, Inventory of Romano-British Coin Hoards, entry 1814 includes the text of (R1), which describes the discovery, before 1836, below a pig sty (following a female apparition in rustling silk walking to that spot and disappearing) of numerous Roman small silver coins and some 'plates or ornaments of silver'. The finder was duped of the latter by two gentlemen who offered to take them to be valued by a silversmith, but the sale of the coins paid for the land and a new house on the site of the pig sty.
