Full Description

2013: An evaluation was to be undertaken prior to construction of a replacement building, however due to the presence of services only a small sondage could be excavated measuring 1m x 1.2m. This was excavated to a depth of 1.5m but did not reach natural geology and had to be abandoned due to depth. No features were observed but a small assemblage of find was recovered which inlcuded to joining sherds of Late Iron Age/Roman pottery, 1 sherds of a Hedingham fineware vessel (12th-mid 13th century), a cattle limb bone fragment with butchery marks, and 2 fragments of the proximal end of a human ulna. All finds were interpreted as being redeposited, with the human bone likely coming from the adjacent church. The evaluation demonstrated that deep deposits inlcuding an alluvial deposit mean that archaeological features could be preserved below a depth of 1.5m. (S1)

2013: Monitoring of groundworks was undertaken but did not identify an archaeological features of finds (S2).
