Summary

Second World War defences and barbed wire obstructions are visible on aerial photographs at Alderton. The defences include at least two pillboxes, type 22s located within the eastern part of the site. Another two possible emplacements or structures were potentially located within this area, although these are less clear on the aerial photographs. An earthen covered gun emplacement was also located along the roadside to the west. These defences and the northern part of Alderton and ‘The Old Rectory’ are surrounded by barbed wire obstructions in 1943. These defences are replaced by the Diver Batteries constructed during the later phases of the war (ADT 085 & ADT 086).
