Summary

Several undated linear and curvilinear banks and ditches are visible as earthworks, cropmarks and soilmarks on aerial photographs on land to the west of Rendlesham Forest. Full Description

June 2015. Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty National Mapping Programme.
Several undated linear and curvilinear banks and ditches are visible as earthworks, cropmarks and soilmarks on aerial photographs (S1)-(S4) on land to the west of Rendlesham Forest. It is possible that they relate to medieval to post medieval boundary banks and ditches, and several of the features are visible on the 1st edition Ordnance Survey map, although others may be remnants of World War Two activity in the area (see SHER EKE 034). It is also possible that at least some of the (now levelled) earthwork bank features may relate to medieval to post medieval warren bank features. Faint cropmarks and many geological features are also visible to the north (S5), but have not been recorded separately as they were too ephemeral.
E. Ford (Norfolk Historic Environment Service), 18th June 2015.
