Full Description

July 2015. Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Beauty National Mapping Programme.
The earthworks of boundary banks and ditches and a possible enclosure are visible on aerial photographs and lidar imagery across a large area of Rendlesham Forest (S1-S5). These earthworks are likely to represent multiple phases of features, some of which are probably medieval to post medieval date, although earlier periods may well be represented. Cropmark boundaries and/or drains of a similar alignment to some components are recorded to the northwest - see EKE 047. Some of the ditches may relate to former trackways and paths within the woodland. Any boundaries marked on the Ordnance Survey First Edition map (S6) map have been omitted from mapping.
Further possible earthworks may be present within the southern part of the site (that largely falls within TM 34NW), but these have not been included within the mapping, but the monument polygon includes their possible location.
