Full Description
2015: Archaeological monitoring of ground reduction revealed twenty six pottery sherds and two clay pipe fragments. Twenty four of the sherds dated to the 16th to 18th century with the remaining two being a sherd of Thetford ware and a sherd dated to the 11th to 13th century. The sherds all predate the early 19th century date for Ickworth House and could be related to the nearby Ickworth Lodge. Alternatively they may indicate the former presence of a farm that predates the construction of the Lodge and House (S1).
