Full Description

Pre 1997: A surface scatter of heavily abraded pottery was found over a period of several years leading up to May 1997. The scatter mostly dated between the 13th and 18th centuries with a possible sherd of Romano British pottery also identified (S1).
1997: A bronze oval plate brooch was also identified. The brooch is unusual and could be Carolingian in origin or a copy (S2).
1997: A large group of around 600 finds dated between the 17th and early 20th century were found on the site. The finds were scanned by Newman, J. at the finders house. The scatter included tokens, buttons and lead waste. The 17th century tokens include examples from Halesworth, Laxfield, Peasenhall, Sibton and North Yarmouth. Local memory remains of tinkers using the area and a possible fair site of some kind (S3).
1997-1998: A small quantity of medieval and early post medieval coins, jettons and pottery were found in the area near to the main road (S3)(S4).
