Please read our .

Summary

One or more Second World War slit trenches are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken between 1944 and 1946. They were probably outlying defences for Leiston, and perhaps also the Diver anti-aircraft battery (LCS 185) located a short distance to the northeast. Later aerial photographs indicate that the earthworks have been levelled.

Full Description

April 2015. Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty National Mapping Programme.
One or more Second World War slit trenches are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken between 1944 and 1946 (S1)-(S3). They were probably outlying defences for Leiston, and perhaps also the Diver anti-aircraft battery (LCS 185) located a short distance to the northeast. Later aerial photographs indicate that the earthworks have been levelled. Only one of the trenches has been mapped; two other possible examples in the adjacent field to the east have been mapped by extent alone as their interpretation is less certain.
S. Tremlett (Norfolk Historic Environment Service), 17th April 2015.
