Full Description

Archaeological evaluation prior to residential development. Only 3 of the 9 trenches revealed archaeological remains: a large post-medieval pit, a small undated pit and two small undated post-holes. It has been suggested that the post holes are part of a strcuture such as a building or fence line. All of the features were located in the north part of the site, suggesting that they may have been peripheral to the village of Kirton. The minimal finds recovered (1 tiny post-medieval potsherd) suggest that the site contains no significant archaeological remains and has always been marginal land (S1).
