Full Description

2015: A fairly wide range of anomalies were prospected during the geophysical survey, the majority of which are likely to have a modern agricultural or geological origin. One positive discrete and two positive linear anomalies are most likely to be of an archaeological derivation(S1).

2015: The evaluation identified a complex of boundary ditches relating to two main phases of activity during the Bronze/Iron Age and the Saxon/Medieval period. Two phases of prehistoric activity can be tentatively suggested, with the ditches either on a north-south, east-west alignment or a northeastsouthwest, northwest-southeast alignment. Two ditches produced pottery of Bronze Age and Iron Age date, but the highly abraded nature of the sherds indicates that the ditches were likely to be field boundaries located away from the main area of settlement. The second phase of field systems was located primarily in the north of the site. These are on a slightly different alignment to the previous prehistoric alignment. These produced very little in terms of findswith only three sherds of Iron Age pottery recovered, indicating a shift in axis in this period. A later Saxon/Medieval phase of boundaries and pits, focused in the north and southwest of the site was also identified. The archaeological features and deposits from the prehistoric period are poorly preserved with evidence for intensive ploughing on the site heavily truncating activity from this period. The later Saxon/Medieval activity is relatively well preserved surviving beneath fairly deep overburden deposits in a number of trenches (S2).
