Full Description
Jan/Feb 1999: Findspot of five coins of 16th and 17th century date found during metal detecting. Group includes: one 1573 hammered silver penny of Elizabeth inscribed 'bust with rose'. One hammered silver groatof Mary I (1553-4), Seaby no.1884. One very worn hammered silver groat of Mary I (1553-4), clipped with small separate fragments. One hammered silver penny of James VI of Scotland (James I of England) obv. Thistle and crown, dated '1602. One hammered silver shilling of 17th century date (S1).
An archaeological desk-based assessment was carried out for this proposed development site. The site measured c.5 hectares and the site is still in arable use. The work involved an assessment of the historic environment record, historic documentary sources and historic maps (S2).
