Full Description
1999: Bone gaming piece of Late Saxon/Saxo-Norman date. Cosists of a circular section of bone, approximately 38mm in diameter. It is decorated on one side by a series of six concentric compass drawn grooves. A central circular hole (That does not pierce the thickness of the bone) and a border of twelve ring and dots contained within a band created by the second and third concentric grooves. The back is plain and the surface is very worn.
The stirrup strap mount is of Late Saxon date. Copper alloy plate- trapezoidal in shape with a flange at the bottom. The plate is pierced by two circular rivet holes for attachment at the bottom.
The bone implement is undated and possibly an ulna from a medium sized animal. The surface is very worn and it has a pointed tip. The exact findspot of these finds is unclear but they are from Long Melford Parish.
