Full Description

A four-bay threshing barn, built in one phase with extensions to the north-west and a lean-to to the east elevation. The barn is timber-framed on a plinth of hand made red bricks. The external walls are cladded in wood, finished in black pitch. The roof would originally have been thateched but is now corrugated iron sheeting. The roof is at two different pitches as a result of a roof alteration . Only two walls of the original fabric remain. Late 17th-18th century (S1).

Recorded as part of the Farmsteads in the Suffolk Countryside Project. This is a purely desk-based study and no site visits were undertaken. These records are not intended to be a definitive assessment of these buildings. Dating reflects their presence at a point in time on historic maps and there is potential for earlier origins to buildings and farmsteads. This project highlights a potential need for a more in depth field study of farmstead to gather more specific age data.
