Monument record HRG 011 - Medieval pits, two possible ponds, and the footings of a small building.

Two small pits containing fired clay, one of the pits contained a fragment of pottery dating to the 12th-14th century. It is likely that the other pit is of a similar date. The chalk-tempered fired clay deposited into the upper fill of one of the pits may be the remains of a medieval oven. The footings for a solid structure were observed just to the east of the present Old Rectory which continued underneath the gravelled driveway. These suggest a structure at least 5m wide (east-west) however no dating evidence was retrieved. The previously unknown wall foundations are not recorded on early OS mapping and are thus likely to predate it though the presence of broken brick/CBM waste within their matrix suggests a post-medieval date rather than anything earlier. Two large truncations were observed in the eastern and north-eastern corners of the new foundations, both believed to be the remains of ponds or similar due to the nature of the soils encountered (S1).
