Summary

Burials associated with the priory have been recorded on three occasions within the bounds of the area of the current evaluation and constitute the only archaeological references to the site. The first instance, in a photograph dated 1857 (ref. fs Ips 9) a stone coffin is shown in a construction trench aligned with the centre of the present chancel of St. Peter's church, but to the east of the boundary wall between the churchyard and the Cardinal Works site.

Full Description

1857: Burials associated with the priory have been recorded on three occasions within the bounds of the area of the current evaluation and constitute the only archaeological references to the site. The first instance, in a photograph dated 1857 a stone coffin is shown in a construction trench aligned with the centre of the present chancel of St. Peter's church, but to the east of the boundary wall between the churchyard and the Cardinal Works site (S1).
